Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED
National Weather Service Gray ME
544 AM EDT Sun Jun 15 2025
.SYNOPSIS...
A bit of a foggy start to the day will give way to mostly sunny
conditions and some warmer temperatures. The wind direction will
remain largely unchanged so areas of fog will be possible again
tonight. Temperatures creep up a few more degrees Monday, with
readings cooler near the coast where winds will be off the
waters. The warm up will continue through midweek until a cold
front approaches from the west.
&&
.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
Update...Expanded the coverage of fog for the next hour or
two...but otherwise no significant changes.
Previous discussion...Light onshore flow and cool temps this
morning have allowed areas of radiation fog/stratus to form
across the interior. This will scatter out after sunrise and
lead to a mostly clear day with warmer temps than yesterday.
That shallow moisture should lead to some cumulus development
across the interior this afternoon. An isolated shower is
possible in the mtns...but widespread precip is not anticipated.
&&
.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 PM MONDAY/...
Based on little change in overall flow pattern and areas of
fog/stratus this morning...I am expecting fog to form again
tonight. I have added fog to the coastal waters and nearshore
areas...but I could see this expanding inland as well. For now I
have this mainly just a stratus deck.
Much like today...isolated showers will be possible in the
higher terrain Mon but otherwise it will be a dry day. Temps
will also be a little bit warmer as well.
&&
.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
&&
.AVIATION /10Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Short Term...Light onshore flow and cool temps have allowed some
local fog and areas of stratus to develop this morning. LIFR
conditions will linger thru sunrise before scattering out to
VFR. Another round of low CIGs and patchy fog is possible again
tonight near the coast.
Long Term...VFR likely prevails through midweek next week, with
nighttime valley fog possible each night. Marine fog is
possible at RKD by midweek as the airmass moistens. Chances for
scattered afternoon showers and storms increase across interior
terminals starting Wednesday and continue through late week.
More widespread showers and storms are possible late Thursday or
Friday.
&&
.MARINE...
Short Term...High pressure will build over the coastal waters
thru the early part of the week. Light onshore flow will promote
the gradual increase in low level moisture and areas of fog.
While confined mainly to the land areas near the coast this
morning...fog over the waters will become more likely starting
this evening.
Long Term...High pressure gradually moves eastward across the
North Atlantic through midweek next week with generally fair
conditions. However, fog will be possible. A cold front
approaches late in the week, with SCA conditions possible in
southwesterly flow ahead of the front by late Wednesday.
